  1. Washburn High School’s football team (2-0), under new coach Giovan Jenkins will take on Edina at 7 p.m. this Thursday, September 17th at Edina.

Coach Jenkins, a ’96 graduate of Washburn played football for MSU – Mankato. Currently he is in his third year as the Dean of Students at Washburn. Coach Jenkins has been involved with football at WHS for the past 8 years under the guidance of Peter Haugen.

He also has been an integral part of the summer Strength and Leadership Academy that has provided wonderful opportunities for students during the summer months.

  2. From Head Coach Lisa Rensenbrink:

Washburn cross country team is small in number but large in excitement. We have five returning runners on the boys side, yet we are still young as we have no seniors on the team. We are building on the experience gained last season and hoping to stay healthy and continue to improve. Top returning runners include Ethan Oscarson who is a sophomore and in his third season of cross country, and Ethan Schuld, a junior, beginning his second season. Ethan Schuld missed much of last season due to illness and is showing great ability after a strong track season last spring as well. Other top returners include Ahmed Ali and Sam Renikoff.

On the girls side, only one runner returns, McKinley Bleskacheck. McKinley is a sophomore, in her second season of cross country. Last season she received mention as an all-city performer, and is starting strong this season and we are looking for her to move up to contend in city conference performance. We are also very excited about the new additions to the team including two freshmen and one eighth grader.

Youth like this helps us build a strong future for our team.

  3. From Head Coach Aaron Percy

The Washburn Boys Soccer program has grown tremendously the last few years. Entering the 2009 season we have close to 60 players participating on three different teams. Our varsity team is stocked with a strong group of younger players. We have twelve 9th or 10th graders playing with the varsity team! All of our players have been working extremely hard since the middle of August and future looks really bright for Washburn soccer in the next few years.
